Summer at Smithfield!
There is quite a lot going on at Smithfield TPC this summer! League, Open Play, Tournaments, and more! Here is a quick overview of what we have going on!:

We launched our Summer Pickleball Dream League in May! Being able to schedule matches based on player’s free time makes this summer-long league hyper flexible, competitive, and incredibly fun! Keep an eye on our STPC Info Board for updated points totals and see the competition rise in real time!
Open Plays have taken to the outdoors! We are offering Open Play sessions on our outdoor courts! Enjoy our outdoor seating and take a break in our grassy area for a picnic when you are done playing!

We have had quite a few successful tournaments and team building events in the early summer! Most recently the pickleball dedicated partner round robin on June 20th! We’ve also hosted Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust, Petersen Pet Hospital, and TransAmerica for their team building and work social events out on the pickleball courts!
Keep a look out for more updates and fun events to come from Smithfield TPC! If you are interested in hosting a party, event, or have questions about sessions, lessons, or more, reach out to our staff and we’ll help you get the support you need on court!
Tennis Student Success!
Earlier this summer, many tennis students from around the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area competed in Individual, Team, and Mixed State Tennis competitions! These students put in the hard work to learn more about the game of tennis, strategy, and being an athlete. Congratulations to those who competed at this level! Below is a list of the students getting steady instruction at Smithfield that competed at the State level this year! Well Done!

The Golden Rule!

Summer means more people on the courts and maybe a little more balls on the run or court crossings! It’s important to remember key court etiquette to make sure everyone on court is safe and respected! Smithfield’s Code of Conduct goes over these well, but in addition we have highlighted some “rules of thumb” to keep in mind while playing!
-Wait to walk onto a court until the current point is over, to avoid any collisions with a ball or person
-Give the current court users the space and time to finish their game. This means warming up on non-court spaces or waiting to warm up until your court time comes.
-Use the appropriate pathways for crossing courts (using the boundaries of courts to cross instead of cutting through the center)
-If your ball goes onto another court, yell “BALL” or “HEADS UP,” wait until play has stopped on the court to retrieve it, or for the people on that court to grab the ball and roll it back to you
DO NOT walk onto a court with an active game or ball machine, if you have to wait, please wait, for your safety and theirs.
-Keep volume to an appropriate level. Keep music or speaker volume to a level that isn’t intrusive to other courts and any yelling or inappropriate language to a minimum.

As always, use the Golden Rule! Treat others how you would like to be treated and be kind and helpful to your community by helping treat everyone with respect and fairness!
